United Way of Knoxville Exploring Community Schools Model

The United Way of Greater Knoxville is collaborating with Knox County Schools and the Knoxville Chamber Partnership to implement the community schools concept specifically to help underserved students.
Through the aid of a number of nonprofit agencies, schools can become hubs of activity by offering programs such as parenting workshops, fitness classes, and dental clinics in a community schools model.
Local leaders from Knoxville went on a site visit and observed Cincinnati, Ohio's
Community Learning Centers, Cincinnati's community school model. The community school concept transformed Cincinnati Public Schools into one of the highest performing urban school districts in Ohio and into a national model for the community school approach.
