This Evaluation Toolkit is intended to help with that data collection and analysis. It is driven by a results framework, and offers a step-by-step explanation of evaluation approach and a menu of data collection instruments. Additionally, examples from local evaluations are included. As always the Coalition invites your comments and feedback as we seek to develop tools that support the growth and development of community schools across the nation.

This report documents the consequences, prevalence, potential causes and possible solutions to children missing extended periods of school in grades K-3rd. Although students must be present and engage to learn, thousands of this country’s youngest students are academically at-risk because of extended absences when they first embark upon their school careers. Nationally, an estimated 1 in 10 kindergarten and 1st grade students are miss nearly a month or more of school over a year.
