Oregon Community School Wins State Award!

M.A. Lynch Elementary School, a Redmond School District community school , is the recipient of the State Champion School’s Award! Winning schools demonstrated significant progress in closing the achievement gap for low income and minority students.

"Their strong belief that every child can be successful led the way to closing the achievement gap and developing our community school model, which is a critical piece of the Lynch success story," said Desiree Margo, Lynch Principal.

In three years, Lynch went from a school designated as ‘Needs Improvement’ to a school rated ‘Outstanding’. The percentage of students with limited English passing their reading benchmark went from 16% in 2007 to 81% in 2010. The percentage of students passing their math benchmark went from 29% in 2007 to 88% in 2010. Results for growth were similar for the special education population.

As one of the selected Champion Schools, Lynch will receive a $3,000 award, trophy and recognition in the Oregonian on March 13.
