Community School Partnership Established in Central Florida

In 2012, Evans High School will open a community school location in Central Florida. Evans is partnering with the University of Central Florida (UCF), including the College of Health and Public Affairs and the College of Education, and the Children's Home Society of Florida. The community school will have a community school director, funded by JP Morgan Chase, a leading community school advocate. They will offer health, dental, and mental health care at a school-based clinic as well as offering adult education, after-school programs, and social services.

The long-term partnership between UCF and the Children’s Home Society has a vision of establishing more community schools in the area. David Bundy, the CEO of the Children's Home Society of Florida, states that the community school model will "help students succeed in school and in life, supported by stronger families and communities."

The principal of Evans High School, David Christiansen, believes that this new partnership will "allow our [Evans High School’s] students to meet their full potential and our community to thrive." Read the full article here.
