Secretary Duncan Emphasizes the Importance of Community Involvement and Early Childhood Education

01/10/11

During a video address on January 7, 2011, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan stresses the critical role of community members in improving our children’s education. Duncan purports that in order to level the achievement gap, not only does the onus lie with our school officials, but with local business partners, philanthropic organizations, community based organizations, higher education institutions, and families as well. He supports an investment of 300 million dollars into the expansion of high quality community programs that teach literacy and socialization skills before age 6.
