Tulsa Area Community Schools Initiative Key Player in Mentorship Program

Dewey Bartlett, Mayor of Tulsa Oklahoma, recently created the new Tulsa County Mentoring Coalition. One of the main partners of the Coalition is the Tulsa Area Community Schools Initiative (TACSI), along with a cooperative force of 15 other nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and education groups. The goal of the new program is to increase the number of mentors in TACSI schools in order to serve more students through companionship and inspiration in hopes of increasing student achievement and decreasing dropout rates.

The mentorship coalition is an expansion of the 2007 mentoring initiative. Mentors will volunteer in TASCI schools and serve as an example of how the community can support students’ learning and growth. One of the goals of the Tulsa County Mentoring Coalition is to create opportunities for cooperation, discussion, and collaboration between nonprofits, schools, and other local and government agencies.
