Spotlight On: 2011 Award for Excellence School Winners
|
Over 100 community school advocates and practitioners came to Capitol Hill for the Coalition’s first annual National Community Schools Advocacy Day and to honor our 2011 Community Schools National Awards for Excellence winners:
Demonstrating bi-partisan support for the community school vision, Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle dropped in to congratulate the winners: Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Representative Jim Cooper (D-TN), Representative Judy Chu (D-CA), House Minority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Senator James Inhofe (R-OK), and Senator Ben Nelson (D-NE). Watch videos from the ceremony here.
Local community school leaders visited 40 Members of Congress to advocate for community school policies.

The Coalition for Community Schools believes that strong communities require strong schools and strong schools require strong communities. We envision a future in which schools are centers of thriving communities where everyone belongs, works together, and succeeds. The Coalition advances opportunities for the success of children, families and communities by promoting the development of more, and more effective, community schools. The Coalition for Community Schools is housed at the Institute for Educational Leadership in Washington, DC.
