A Tribute To Landon Rowland
Landon Rowland, Chairperson of the Local Investment Commission (LINC) in Kansas City, recently passed away. Landon was among the finest corporate and community leaders the Coalition has had the privilege of knowing. Landon operated as easily in neighborhoods as he did in the corporate board room. Announcing the CSSP Accelerating Change Award
The Center for the Study of Social Policy is announcing a new award to honor and uplift the contributions of organizations, programs, initiatives and agencies serving young women and girls of color involved in intersecting public systems. Innovative initiatives with evidence of strong results serving or advocating on behalf of this population are invited to apply for the inaugural Accelerating Change Award. Applications are due February 19, 2016.
Oakland Unified School District: Community School Stories
Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) has launched a new project entitled Community Schools Stories, which tells the stories of community school work being done across Oakland school sites. The stories include an overview of OUSD Community Schools and stories from a variety of perspectives about the great work being done in these schools.
Healthy Students, Promising Futures
The U.S. Department of Education with the Department Health and Human Services released a new toolkit that details five ways schools and health groups can partner together to promote healthy communities. Read their feature on community schools on page 15. Read More>

Gov. Cuomo unveils plan to expand community schools
In Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s State of the State address, he proposed boosting state education spending. His most significant proposal was a $100 million plan to convert struggling New York City schools into resource-filled community schools. Of that, $75 million will be allocated to the 17 districts that have schools designated as struggling by the state. Read More>
