Lincoln Nebraska Community Schools Search for Funding Options

To keep the success of Lincoln’s Community Learning Centers going, local officials there are mulling over several options to help fund the schools after its current grants expire.
Lincoln opened its first CLCs nearly 10 years ago thanks to a $3.2 million federal 21st Century grant and has since expanded to 25 schools serving over 5,300 students.
That grant is set to expire and officials are debating whether to seek extensions on the grant, use money from the city or school district’s budget, use private funds, or ending the CLC program altogether.
Regardless of how the funding changes, CLC officials are looking at restructuring the organization, possibly switching to a nonprofit, as they move forward.
