It Takes a Village to Raise a Child

Larry C. Simmons a Community Schools Coordinator at Elev8 Baltimore, a division of Humanim, works in five schools by partnering with families, and the community to make sure that students in grades 3rd - 8th are ready to succeed in High School and Life.

Mr. Simmons role as a community schools coordinator goes beyond providing services. During the Baltimore "2015 Uprising" Larry used his role as a Coordinator at Central West Baltimore to offer over100 students and families a safe space from the violence on the streets.

His role at Elev8 Baltimore, an initiative of Humanim, a non-profit focused on transforming Baltimore neighborhoods, in five Elementary/Middle Schools places him in the forefront of providing 1,800 students with after school services, school-based health services, and family support services to their caregivers.

Larry also helps to ensure Elev8 Baltimore vision is fulfilled by engaging families and students so they can be effective advocates for themselves and help to partner with other community-based organizations to promote change in the policies and practices of schools and local and national government agencies.

"I truly believe in the adage it takes a village to raise a child and that Community Schools brings this to life." Community School Coordinators like Larry are "Change Agents," who help to create partnerships so students learn and thrive.
