Hartford CS Students Make Gains in Core Subjects

Hartford Community Schools (HCS) is now in its second full academic year in five Hartford Public Schools (HPS) with five community schools. The OMG Center for Collaborative Learning conducted an evaluation of HCS (2009-2010).  The evaluation investigated the extent to which the community schools strategy is a good reform model for the Hartford community.  The initial results conclude that students participating in the afterschool portion of community schools show gains across all three Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) subject areas. The report also answers three overarching questions

  1. How and to what extent do investing partners support the implementation of community schools?
  2. How and to what extent do Hartford Community Schools fully develop school-based partnerships, systems, and programs according to their community school models?
  3. To what extent are outcomes realized for schools, students, families, and ultimately communities associated with the community schools?
