Community Schools Featured on MSNBC

The community schools movement got a major shout out on national television over the weekend during MSNBC’s annual Education Nation program that aired Sunday September 25.

During the teachers’ town hall portion of the program, Annie Bogenschutz, a Resource Coordinator at the Ethel Taylor Academy, one of Cincinnati’s community learning centers, hailed the effectiveness of her school and others like it that weld together community and business partnerships to bring resources to disadvantaged students.

"Our students are coming in carrying in all this baggage. We need to be able to meet them at door addressing those needs," she told the show’s host and NBC News anchor Brian Williams.

Cincinnati public schools synergize outside partnerships and resources such as mentoring and mental health services, into schools that they’ve termed "community learning centers."
The community schools strategy is being replicated in Cincinnati and throughout the country, Annie explained.
