Thanks for your interest in learning how you can help change America's attitude towards public education. Traditionally, public schools have been structured to achieve academic goals, but increasingly schools and their communities are finding that for students to achieve these goals, some basic social and health needs must be addressed, and youth development opportunities be made available.
The
Children's Aid Society, Coalition for Community Schools and the Ad Council are proud to
sponsor this 3-year ad campaign on community schools. Through this
campaign, we seek to build public support for the concept of community
schools and increase understanding of this effective approach to public
education among parents, professional educators, public and private child,
youth and family organizations and community leaders.
We invite you to
learn how you can take part in changing your public school into a
community school.
Community schools do this work. They are
public schools that offer much more than conventional schools can in a
9-to-3 day. They are both a set of partnerships and a place where a full range of
educational enrichment, health and social services, family support, youth
development and community activities lead to improved student learning,
stronger families and healthier communities. Inventive, enduring
relationships among educators, families, community volunteers, business,
health and social service agencies, youth development organizations, and
others committed to children are changing the educational landscape -
permanently - by transforming traditional schools into community schools.
