Highlights from Coordinators Appreciation Week

Thank you to all the community schools, students, initiatives, school districts, and community partners who participated in the celebrations to make the first ever Coordinator’s Appreciation Week a huge success! Thank you to our co-hosts, The Netter Center for Community Partnerships, Communities In Schools, the Beacon National Network, and the National Center for Community Schools for joining us in recognizing these extraordinary game-changers. From funny gifs and ice cream socials to flowers and heartfelt handwritten notes, people across the country poured out their thankfulness to their community school coordinators.

Here are some of the highlights from #CoordinatorsRock Week.

To start the week off strong, we all joined together in a Thunderclap, giving our coordinators the round of applause they deserve. Our Thunderclap tweet went out to over 72,000 people on Twitter and Facebook. Later, we heard from José Muñoz, Director for the Coalition for Community Schools, sharing the importance of coordinators in building good community school programs and stronger communities. And on Wednesday, you all joined our Twitter Chat to give key insights into who coordinators are and the crucial role they play in community schools.

We got almost 1,000 tweets that reached over 700,000 people throughout the week on why #CoordinatorsRock. Everyone from Vancouver, WA to Lincoln, NE; from Albuquerque, NM to Philadelphia, PA; and from Hartford, CT to Knoxville, TN joined the fun.

One of these amazing coordinators, Lauren Markham, recently published The Far Away Brothers: Two Young Migrants and the Making of an American Life based on her experience at a community school in Oakland, CA that serves 100% recently arrived immigrant students. Not only are our community school coordinators are truly talented, but they are making a difference for our most vulnerable students.

Community School Coordinators truly rock! They often sacrifice their own time and resources to create partnerships that lead to a better future for their students and families. Thank you again to all our Coordinators and to everyone who made the inaugural Community Schools Coordinator’s Appreciation Week an enormous success. Save the date for our 2nd annual Coordinators Appreciation Week on September 24-28, 2018!
