2013 Community Schools National Awards for Excellence
Dear Community School Leaders,
On June 5-6, 2013, the Coalition for Community Schools will honor five high-performing community schools with the 2013 Community Schools National Awards for Excellence during the Community Schools Education Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
The Individual Community Schools Awards
will go to three schools that have been operating as community schools for at least 3 years and have demonstrated success. Each winning school will receive $2,500
The Community School Initiative Awards
will go to two initiatives with joint efforts between schools and community stakeholders that have organized multiple community school sites with a strong commitment to scaling up across the community or school systems. Each winning initiative will receive $5,000
Celebration of the 2011 Awards for Excellence
Roy Clark Elementary in Tulsa, Oklahoma is leveraging resources from 30 partners to support their students, reaching out purposefully to families through home visits, offering free medical services, and academic enrichment.
Ethel Taylor Academy has seen a 42.4 percent increase in the number of students scoring "Proficient" or higher on the Ohio Achievement Assessments. The school has made it a priority to identify subject areas where there are deficiencies, and establish partnerships and allocate resources to meet these needs.
Glencliff High School, in addition to providing supports and services before, during, and after the school day, it is implementing career academies in partnership with the business community. The school works with community partners to meet many urgent student and family needs.
